Mac Mini...how cool is it?

Pretty cool, in fact. We saw one at the local Apple store yesterday, and it reminds one of a beefed up portable hard drive. In fact it's somewhat smaller than some, but comes with the Mac and a DVD/SuperDrive built in, so there's lots of value in this package.

We spoke at length with an Apple representative about the product who confirmed that the company is targeting the Windows user big time. This platform is positioned about where the iBook is, but with a slightly beefier processor. You will need to add some RAM, and if you are a serious movie-maker the SuperDrive (combo CD/DVD writer) is a must.

With all this kit, you are around the $1,000 mark, at which you may want to consider some of the other options in the Apple lineup if, the portability isn't that big a deal. Also these additions are about it...this is not an highly expandable computer.

Having said that, though, there is a plethora of inexpensive firewire and USB2 drives to choose from in the market, so storage at least won't be a problem. Even with it's limitations, it is a compelling package, and we think it will be a hit.
